KINNER KAILASH, THE MYTHICAL HOME OF THE LORD SHIVA, HIMACHAL PRADESH.

Popularly known as “Parbat Of Lord Shiva”, this mountain is perched at an altitude of 6500 meters above the sea level. The alluring landscapes of this place make it the most popular tourist spot in Kalpa. People, in large number, visit this place to take the holy Parikrama, which kickstarts from Morang and continues till Kalpa. Kinnaur Kailash is situated amid breathtaking valleys, lush green gardens, snow-clad mountains, and gushing rivers. What further adds to the significance of this site is the holy Shivling of Lord Shiva. The Shivling is nestled on the Kailash rage at a height of around 4800m. With its religious significance and panoramic landscapes, it is one of the finest places to visit in Kinnaur.

FOLKLORE ABOUT KINNER KAILASH:

For the ardent devotees of Lord Shiva, Kinnaur holds utmost religious significance as the place is home to a 79 ft tall shivalinga, which changes colours every second. It is basically a rock pillar neatly balanced on rock slab and also resembles a trident. Close by is Parvati Kund, which is located at an altitude of 14900 ft above sea level.

Mythology states that Lord Shiva conducted a meeting of Goddesses and Gods at Kinner Kailash peak every winter. This accounts for the Yatra that takes place every year during this time by devotees of Lord Shiva and local deities.

As per the popular belief, the kund was created by Goddess Parvati herself. Also, it was the meeting point of Lord Shiva and the goddess, so it was also known as ‘Aashiqi Park’. As per another mythological belief, every winter, Lord Shiva used to conduct a meeting of gods and goddesses here at Kinner Kailash.

March to April and September to October months are one of the best months to travel to places in Kinnaur like Kalpa, Sangla Valley, or Chitkul. In the springtime window, you will see beautiful flowers and snow in the valley while in the autumn season, you will find the best of road conditions and beautiful colors.

Some hotels also arrange for camping. The better hotels also offer services like wi-fi, swimming pools, spas and sauna and charge anywhere around Rs 2,000.

BEST PLACES TO EAT IN KINNER KAILASH:

The salted tea called Cha is a local favorite. Sattu, made of parched barley flour, is another favorite dish here. Most locals are non-vegetarians, mutton and lamb delicacies are the specialties here.
